Laundry Room

I stopped working on the fence for a little bit to work on the Laundry room. I had to do this because we were quickly running out of clothes.

The first thing I did was run all the wiring in the floor that needed to be run, this includes the wiring for the overhead lights in the Dining room, kitchen, and bathroom below. With that done I laid R-30 insulation down and installed the sub-floor over it.

Here is part of the sub-floor going down:

Next I built the knee-wall where the washer/dryer will go.

I also installed the sub-panel, this will feed the upstairs rooms.

Here's a question for you Electricians out there, is this sub-panel wired correctly? The main panel is wired with a neutral ground so I added a wire between neutral and ground in this panel.

Next I hung the sheet-rock in the washer/dryer area. installed the dryer plug and vent hole after this picture.

Then I set up the washer and dryer.

This is all I'm going to do on this for now, we have a working washer and dryer and there are more pressing things to do... like maybe getting some electricity to the upstairs bedrooms. We're using flashlights to get around upstairs at night right now.

On sub-panels the neutrals and grounds cannot be tied together per code. Remove the green jumper between the neutral and ground. Run all the bare wires to the side with the green wire feeding it and all the white wires to the neutral side. I'm sure I'm forgetting something else but that should get you started.

As jim said, just remove the jumper and tie your neutrals and grounds accordingly....

You make it look so easy!

Where do you find all the energy?

Thanks for the help Jim and Mike, I'll remove the wire connecting the ground and neutral.

Larry, I wish I had a ton of extra energy! Some days it's hard to get going after working all day and taking care of one of a million other things I have to do.

I know exactly what you mean. Hang in there, everything is coming along good. In my case the money runs out before the ambition does !!! ha ha ha.

Do yourself a favor an install a pan under your washer. I'm assuming from the photos that your washer and dryer are located on the 2nd floor. Many people end up ruining their homes when a simple hose breaks.

Your house is really coming along!

There's a pan under the washer, you can see it in the last picture. A drain line runs from it to the soffit. There is also a pan under the hot water heater.
